JioHotstar has made its efforts against the piracy of its content stronger in a bid to keep other platforms from using it without the streamer's authorisation. In the last few days, it targeted illegal IPTV applications, which were distributing its content, with no license or authorisation. It has set in motion a wider enforcement action concerning 36 such Android and iOS applications that removed these apps from iOS and Google Play platforms. The said applications include XCIPTV, IPTV Smarters Pro, Televizo, XTV Ultra IPTV Media Player, and VU IPTV Player.
The latest enforcement measures coincide with the T20I Cricket World Cup, streaming on JioHotstar, and comes not long after the streaming platform triggered a similar measure against piracy networks, causing a large-scale shutdown of infringing IPTV apps.
Parallelly, following the grant of a dynamic injunction by the Delhi High Court, the streamer has suspended up to 141 piracy sites. It has also succeeded in blocking 279 other websites, illegally streaming the content. Third-party platforms that illegally distribute JioHotstar content also disseminate the cinema content available on the streamer, as part of their wider illegal streaming operations. Some of these platforms, which often operate as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services, bundle copyrighted content from many different channels into one single, illegal subscription. The streamer is home to films spanning 17 languages and 100,000 hours worth of drama.
With the latest enforcement measures, it is diverting the content thereof back to its own platform.
