The official trailer of upcoming Netflix series Chumbak was unveiled at an event held here in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Set in a contemporary urban Indian neighbourhood named Chumbak society, Chumbak follows five families whose lives are so intertwined that neighbours become less like people next door and more like permanent family. From a hopeless romantic lovebird duo (Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah), to a seemingly zen couple (Sumeet Vyaas and Manasi Parekh) who hide their chaos under their quiet appearance, from an unpredictable Parsi family where the couple is struggling to make space for the boy’s domineering mother-in-law to Dharmendra and Kiran, where trouble arises out of Dharmendra’s penchant for playing women roles in his acting journey. Tying them together is the oldest couple of the all — Rajni and Kuku, who are perpetually at loggerheads even as they remain head-over-heels in love. The trailer offers a glimpse into this chaotic world, introducing these eccentric yet familiar characters and the relationships that hold the colony together.

Written and directed by Aatish Kapadia and produced by Jamnadas (JD) Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, Chumbak premieres on September 10. Jamnadas (JD) Majethia and Aatish Kapadia in a joint statement said, "With Chumbak, we wanted to capture something familiar to all of us - the neighbourhood where nothing is ever truly 'personal.' We've always loved telling stories and finding humour in everyday relationships, and here, we wanted characters who feel familiar yet surprise you.”

Produced under their Hats Off Production banner, which has delivered iconic sitcoms like Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Chumbak boasts a massive ensemble cast with actors like  Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Amyra Dastur, Anant V Joshi, Sumeet Vyas, Manasi Parekh, Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Sumeet Raghvan and Sandeepa Dhar on board.

Tanya Bami shared, “From The Great Indian Kapil Show to Maamla Legal Hai and Single Papa, each series has brought a very different flavour of comedy to our slate. With Chumbak, we are excited to take this further. There is something instantly familiar about a great neighbourhood comedy — you know these characters, you recognise these situations, and the humour comes from how real it all feels. Chumbak captures that beautifully. JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia have a truly distinctive comic voice, and a much-loved body of work that has built a loyal audience over the years."
