In March last year, we reported that production on the Taapsee Pannu starrer Gandhari was wrapped. The film was also announced as part of the Netflix 2026 slate in January this year, but no further updates were provided. On Friday, however, the streamer finally announced the release date of the much-awaited project.

Also starring Ishwak Singh in the lead cast, Gandhari will have its OTT release on September 3. Billed as a revenge drama, it is directed by Devashish Makhija, known for films like Bhonsle (2018) and Joram (2023), and written by Kanika Dhillon. It is also produced under Kanika's banner, Kathha Pictures. The supporting cast includes Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht, and Jatin Sarna.

The film is mounted as an emotionally driven action story rooted in a mother’s fierce instinct to protect her child. Reportedly, Taapsee will be seen doing a lot of action in the film. The team also released a new poster on Friday, which dramatically stages Taapsee against a towering shadow of Goddess Kali.

Speaking about the film, Taapsee had said earlier, “It has been not just mentally but a physically demanding film. We tried to achieve so much against all odds which wouldn’t have been possible if the entire team was not aligned together and driven enough to complete this film at break neck speed. We have pushed the envelope a bit with this film.”

Kanika is known for films like Ra.One (2011), Manmarziyaan (2018), Judgmental Hai Kya (2019) and Haseen Dillruba (2021). Gandhari marks her fourth collaboration with Taapsee, after Manmarziyaan, Haseen Dillruba, and Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba.

Taapsee was seen earlier this year in Anubhav Singh directed Assi, which received critical acclaim but struggled at the box office.
