VR Dinesh and Kalaiyarasan's latest socio-political drama Thandakaaranyam has landed on OTT platform SunNXT. Directed by Athiyan Aathirai, the film was released in theatres on September 19.

Inspired by true events, Thandakaaranyam follows Murugan (Kalaiyarasan) as he joins a military training camp for a special anti-Naxal unit, and vows to cross every type of physical and emotional hardship so he can return home to his family and the love of his life as a uniformed officer and earn back lost respect. Upon release, the film was met with mixed and positive reviews from audiences and critics.

Our CE review of the film read, "From its political stance to its humanist themes, Thankadakaaranyam is a sincere and honest effort that makes you care about its characters and keeps you engaged throughout. If not for the excessive melodrama and lack of finesse in the writing, perhaps it could have been a satisfying emotional drama rather than a film with the subtlety of an airport marshaller."

The ensemble cast of Thandakaaranyam also features Riythvika, Vinsu Sam, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Muthukumar, Aruldoss, Saranya Ravichandran and Bala Saravanan.

Behind the camera, Justin Prabhakaran scores the music, with lyrics penned by Umadevi and Thanikodi. Pratheep Kaliraja serves as the cinematographer, Selva RK handles editing, and T Ramalingam is in charge of art direction. Stunts are choreographed by Stunner Sam and AS Sudeshkumar.
