On Wednesday, Netflix announced that their upcoming series, Forever, is all set to premiere on the streamer on May 8. Created by Mara Brock Akil, the series is a reimagination of the 1975 eponymous novel by Judy Blume.

This coming-of-age story dives into the powerful first love of two Black teenagers in 2018 Los Angeles. Navigating the awkwardness (and beauty) of a first relationship, they explore their identities against the backdrop of a city buzzing with youthful energy. The show will have themes found in creator Mara Brock Akil's previous works, like Girlfriends and Being Mary Jane, which celebrated Black love.

Love Simone and Michael Cooper Jr essay the lead roles of Keisha and Justin. Adriyan Rae, Karen Pittman, and Wood Harris are also a part of the cast of Forever. The first episode of Forever is set to be helmed by Academy Award winner Regina King, who will also serve as the executive producer.
