Freida Pinto is all set to star in the adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth from Netflix. The drama series is created by John Wells, who has created shows like Shameless and The Pitt.
The series is set on the elite, insular Indian American community in Cambridge, Massachussets, USA. The members of that community must take sides when a scandalous affair is come to light, between a married woman and her long-lost lover. At the centre of this community is Parul Chaudhury, the character that Pinto will portray.
Madhuri Shekar serves as the showrunner of the series. Shekar serves as an executive producer with Wells, Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, Celia Costas, and Ritesh Batra, who also directs the first two episodes of the series. Batra is known for directing films like The Lunchbox, Photograph, and Our Souls At Night. Netflix, John Wells Productions, and Warner Bros Television are backing the film.
Breaking out with Danny Boyle's Oscar Winning drama, Slumdog Millionaire, Pinto has gone on to star in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Love Sonia, Mowgli: The Legend of the Jungle, and in Ron Howard's Hillbilly Elegy, as the current Second Lady of the USA, Usha Vance.
