Oscars 2024 award-winning film Godzilla Minus One has premiered on Netflix. The film won the Academy award this year for Best Visual Effects, and was the first time a Godzilla film was recognized by the Academy ever.

The film which was released in theaters in December 2023, quickly became the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film in US box office history.

Takashi Yamazaki directed Godzilla Minus One, while Ishirô Honda, Takashi Yamazaki, and Takeo Murata wrote its screenplay. The film revolves around the emergence of a monstrous creature named Godzilla in a WWII-hit Japan. It is one of the many films in the Kaiju film franchise where the creature is portrayed as an antagonist. It follows a former kamikaze pilot suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after encountering Godzilla.

The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Saski in vital roles. Godzilla Minus One is the 33rd Japanese language Godzilla film and 37th Godzilla film in total.
