After almost a month-long theatrical run, Dhanush's latest film Raayan is all set to be released on Amazon Prime Video on August 23.
Starring writer-director Dhanush himself in his 50th film as an actor, Raayan tells the story of three brothers and their sister who spent a good part of their childhood without their parents. A young Raayan (Dhanush) takes his siblings, Muthu (Sundeep Kishan), Manickam (Kalidas Jayaram), and Durga (Dushara Vijayan), under his wing and nurtures them into people with a no-nonse, albeit often violent, approach to societal nuisance. The screenplay packs in Shakespearean-level themes of loyalty and betrayal, power and corruption, ambition and greed, and fate.
Raayan also stars Aparna Balamurali, Selvaraghavan, SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Saravanan, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, among others. The film has also been appreciated for its music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Om Prakash.
The film opened to mixed to positive reviews on July 26. Our CE review of the film read, "If Dhanush so chose, he could have treated Raayan as a film with elevation moment after elevation moment, set-piece after set-piece, but he doesn’t. He observes fascinating restraint and steps into the action zone quite carefully each time."
Raayan has music by AR Rahman, cinematography by Om Prakash, editing by Prasanna GK, stunts by Peter Hein, as well as dance choreography by Prabhu Deva and Baba Baskar.
