Peddha Kapu 1, which hit theatres on September 29 is now available for streaming on Prime Video. The film is written and directed by Srikanth Addala. He has previously helmed the Venkatesh-starrer Narappa, which is the official Telugu remake of the Vetrimaaran film Asuran. Incidentally, Narappa was released directly on Prime Video.
Peddha Kapu 1 is headlined by newcomer Virat Karrna. Pragati Shrivastava, who starred in Manu Charitra earlier this year opposite Shiva Kandukuri, is the film’s female lead. Rao Ramesh, Tanikella Bharani, Eswari Rao, Anasuya, Naren and Naga Babu play supporting roles in the film. A tale of caste oppression in 80s Andhra coinciding with the rise of the Telugu Desam Party, Peddha Kapu opened to mixed to negative reviews and poor openings at the box office. A CE review of the film reads, “Offering little respite or hope, Peddha Kapu treads the path of unsubtle propaganda in the name of depicting oppression.”
The film was produced by Miriyala Satyanarayana Reddy, who has also produced 2021’s Akhanda. Chota K Naidu is the cinematographer of the film, with editing by Marthand K Venkatesh and production design by GM Sekhar.
