On Monday, Netflix announced that their recent hit survival-drama series, Kaala Paani, has been renewed for a second season. The show stars Mona Singh, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, Sukant Goel and Amey Wagh among others.

Kaala Paani is directed by Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani and written by him, along with Biswapati Sarkar, Sandeep Saket and Nimisha Mishra. The series premiered on Netflix on October 18 and became an instant hit. 

The show is set in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A strange, probably water-borne, disease has spread in the area. This plunges its inhabitants into a frantic struggle for survival as they are confined by the vast sea. As the race to discover a cure intensifies, desperation mounts, and the islands’ fate hangs in the balance, the only way out is to establish that they are the fittest to survive the befalling calamity.

The series title alludes to the colonial-era Cellular Jail housed on the islands. The series is produced by Posham Pa Pictures.
