Kothapallilo Okappudu, the rural satire that had a theatrical release earlier this year in July, now has a streaming release date. The film, which is presented by Rana Daggubati, will begin streaming on Aha on Friday, August 22.
Starring Manoj Chandra in the lead role, Kothapallilo Okappudu told the story of a village brimming with quirky characters, led a clever yet simple-minded Ramakrishna (Manoj Chandra), who is looking for a dancer for his recording troupe, also attempting to woo a local girl named Savitri (Monika T). How Ramakrishna’s bumbling manoeuvres land him in a complicated web of lies and deceit, as the village enters an obsessive phase of supernatural practices, form the crux of the story.
The satire marked the directorial debut of Praveena Paruchuri, who had previously produced acclaimed films like C/O Kancharapalem and Uma Maheswara Ugra Rupasya. The film also marks the debuts for its female leads Monika T and Usha Bonela. The ensemble cast includes Babu Mohan, Benerjee, Bongu Satti, Phani, and Premsagar. In our review for the film, we noted, “Underneath all the charm and eccentricities is a deeper, more philosophical query about belief, and the film is anything but subtle about it. Unfortunately, this is where the narrative falters a bit, as it realises it has too many elements on the platter. And yet, there’s something very admirable about how Kothapallilo Okappudu explores these themes.”
Praveena also co-produced the film in association with Gopalakrishna Paruchuri under Paruchuri Vijaya Praveena Arts banner.
Mani Sharma composed songs for the film, while Varun Unni gave the background score. The film’s story and dialogues are penned by Gurukiran Bathula. Cinematography is handled by LA-based director of photography Petros Antoniadis. Editing is by Kiran R, who is also credited as the ‘creative director.’ Jitendra Mourya and Vishal Gyanchandani are co-credited as production designers.
