Director Meghna Gulzar's police procedural Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran, opened in theatres on September 18 to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. According to the latest available data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film earned around 10 crore after the first nine days of its release. While there has been some criticism for the film, it earned high praise from director Anjali Menon on Sunday.

Speaking about the film, Anjali wrote, "Saw Daayra last night and the film is still affecting me. Meghna Gulzar once again holds up a mirror, and this time to show us how ugly we have become as we normalise the utterly abnormal. Prithviraj Sukumaran is perfectly cast as the inscrutable unblinking cop who swallows his seething rage. Kareena Kapoor brings a beautifully contained and empathetic performance to Ajooni. They stands as two ends of the moral spectrum while our skin crawls when we hear “iss waali ko chod dete hain.""

Anjali has directed Prithviraj in films such as 2008's Manjadikuru and 2018's Koode. She is also known for telling stories where female characters also have importance and as one of the founding members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), which advocates for women's rights in Malayalam cinema.

Speaking of which, about the core themes of Daayra, Anjali added, "In a country where over 1000 films are made it is rare to see films that speak about what needs to be spoken about. While our girls protest about their basic rights even now, the film asks questions about who should carry the onus of their safety, the line between duty and law and the pathetic failure of the system. Kudos to the whole team for this hard hitting film!"
