Ahead of his film Karuppu's release in theatres on Thursday, director RJ Balaji visited Keralam for a promotional event alongside his lead actor Suriya. The filmmaker made a quirky remark about the CM situation in the state. "Kerala and Tamil Nadu have many connections. Everything is similar between both states. Even recently, many tried to become the CM from many different parties in our state. In your place, many people from the same party are trying to become the CM," the Karuppu director quipped.

Balaji was referring to the lack of a decision over which Congress member would become the Chief Minister of Keralam. It has been around ten days since the announcement of the legislative assembly elections in the state, but Congress is yet to determine the CM. The party's leaders from the state met the High Command in Delhi recently, and a decision is expected to arrive soon. The discussion centres around three CM candidates in Keralam: KC Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala, and VD Satheesan.

Referring to the audience at the promotional event, RJ Balaji said, "We have got a good CM; I wish that you also get a good CM soon."

The director also expressed his surprise at the number of fans that Suriya has in Keralam. "That is another similarity between both states. He has so many fans over here as well," the actor said about his film's lead actor. "Not just for Keralam, Suriya sir is very special for me as well," the director added before thanking the star for his constant support of the film, from the shoot to the promotions.

The upcoming film also stars Trisha, Indrans, Natty, Swasika, Sshivadha, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy, among others. Produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabu under Dream Warrior Pictures, the film's writers include Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan, and Karan Aravind Kumar.
