A Malayalam remake of the 2022 Tamil film Aadhaar, directed by Ramnath Palanikumar, is in the works. Ramnath himself is set to direct the film, which has the same title as the 2022 original and Yogi Babu in the lead role. According to a press release, the film will have other prominent actors in important roles, and the makers are putting together a crew that includes leading technicians.
Talking about his upcoming movie, filmmaker Ramnath stated, "Although Aadhaar was released around the same time as Ponniyin Selvan in 2022, it managed to capture the attention of journalists, critics, members of the film industry, and audiences, earning widespread acclaim. I am extremely happy to direct its Malayalam version with Yogi Babu in the lead. I am confident that Malayalam audiences, who always appreciate quality cinema, will welcome Aadhaar as well."
The filmmaker added that the movie will explore, realistically, how commoners are taken advantage of by a corporate world that is driven by profit.
The 2022 original starred Karunas, Prabhakar, and Arun Pandian in the lead roles. Notably, the announcement about the Aadhaar remake comes on the day that marked the release of Karunas's son, actor-director Ken's film Youth.
Ramnath is also known as the dialogue and screenplay writer of Dindigul Sarathy, as the director of Ambasamudram Ambani, featuring Karunas in the lead, and the filmmaker behind the Jiiva-Nayanthara starrer Thirunaal.
The makers are planning to commence production on the remake soon.
Coming back to Yogi Babu, the actor made his Malayalam debut with a role in Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, directed by Vipin Das and co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Basil Joseph, and Nikhila Vimal, among others. Last seen in the Telugu film Couple Friendly, the actor's upcoming projects include Jailer 2, co-starring Rajinikanth, Arjunan Per Paththu, and the Allu Arjun-Atlee film, tentatively titled AA22xA6.
