Director Jiyen Krishnakumar's Ananthan Kaadu has opened in theatres to mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Most of the critics pointed out the element of predictability in the story, but they praised some of the performances in the film.
The latest film also stars Indrans, Nikhila Vimal, Regena Cassandrra, Siddique, Ajay, Bose Venkat, Dev Mohan, Renji Panicker, Anjali P Nair, Santhy Balachandran, Achyuth Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Sagar Surya, Alsyn Benny, and Appani Sarath. Besides starring in the film, Murali Gopy has also written its screenplay.
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned a gross collection of 74 lakh from theatres worldwide and a net collection of 65 crore on the opening day of its release. It is worth noting that the film has been released in two languages: Tamil and Malayalam. According to the tracker's data, the Ananthan Kaadu box office collection for the Malayalam version stands at 45 lakh (net), whereas it is 20 lakh for the Tamil version.
The film marked Arya's comeback into Malayalam cinema after a long gap. According to the actor's WikiPedia page, his last Malayalam film is Pathinettam Padi, co-starring Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nakul Thampi, and Unni Mukundan, among others.
On the technical front, Ananthan Kaadu has composer B Ajaneesh Loknath of Kantara fame, editor Rohit VS Variyath, cinematographer S Yuva, production designer Ranjith Kotheri, and action director R Sakthi Saravanan.
The film follows a group of underprivileged people with a violent past who sign up for one final act of crime for a bigwig in politics out of necessity. In our review, Vignesh Madhu wrote, "This ends up being one of Murali Gopy's most straightforward commercial scripts, lacking the layered storytelling and ideological depth often associated with his writing."
