Directed by veteran M Padmakumar, Uyir is a cop thriller based on real-life incidents from a police officer's life. It has Roshan playing Ajeeb, a sub-inspector serving his probationary period at the Dharmadam Police Station in Kannur district. Singer Nikhil K Menon and Shaji Maraad, whose previous writing credits include Ela Veezha Poonchira and Paathirathri, have co-scripted the film based on Inspector Anshad's story. Notably, both Anshad and Shaji are policemen in real life.

Uyir marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actor Saiyami Kher, with whom Roshan had earlier worked on Anurag Kashyap's Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai. The upcoming film also stars Vineeth Thattil, Divya M Nair, Santhosh Thrivikraman, Shaju Sreedhar, Shrikant Murali, Athulya Chandra, and Mahesh Shetty.

Uyir, produced by Santhosh Thrivikraman under the banner of Vow Cinemas, has cinematography by Ajay David Kachappilly, editing by Renjan Abraham, and music by Manikandan Ayyappa.
