Mukundan Unni Associates director Abhinav Sunder Nayak's sophomore film, Mollywood Times, opened in theatres on Friday. The film has been met with much critical appreciation. However, the word of mouth is yet to fully translate into bona fide box office numbers for the film. According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, it earned a gross collection of 2.09 crore from theatres worldwide on Friday. On the other hand, in terms of net figures, the Mollywood Times box office collection stands at 1.80 crore. According to the box office tracker, there were 954 shows for the film on release day.

With positive feedback coming in for the Naslen starrer, the collection is expected to increase soon and eventually turn it into a box office success.

A satire on the realities of the film industry, Mollywood Times tells the story of a youngster (Naslen) who wants to become the best horror film maker in the world.

The film also stars Sharaf U Dheen, Sangeeth Prathap, Roshan Shanavas, Appunni Sasi, and Gopika Ramesh, among others. It has brought Naslen and Sangeeth back together after their collaboration on the blockbuster film Premalu. The news regarding the actors' reunion with the film brought much hype around it before its release.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal-Jeethu Joseph's Drishyam 3 is still running reasonably well in theatres, even around three weeks after its release. According to Sacnilk data, the Mohanlal starrer earned 80 lakh from theatres on Friday and around the same figure so far this Saturday. Now, it remains to be seen how far the Naslen film will go at the box office and how much more it will collect. It is set to face much competition soon, with Joju George's Varavu and Manjummel Boys filmmaker Chidambaram's Balan: The Boy set to release later this month.
