Balan: The Boy trailer: Rifle wielding mother fights psychological, human demons to protect her son

Balan: The Boy is directed by Chidambaram, written by Jithu Madhavan, and is set to release on June 19

The official trailer for Balan: The Boy, which is directed by Manjummel Boys director Chidambaram, has been released. The psychological thriller, which is written by Jithu Madhavan (director of Aavesham), is set to release on June 19.

While revealing minimal details about the film's plot, the trailer shows a mother and son, who are on the run from the police, and a violent grandmother. The mother who goes by names like Mary Luca or Sherly, deals with a traumatic incident, and takes extreme measures to protect her son.

Balan: The Boy, was earlier screened at the Marche du Film section of the Cannes Film Festival 2026, where it received positive response. The makers also described the film to explore identity, survival, and the bond between a mother and child.

Music composer Sushin Shyam reunites with Chidambaram for Balan: The Boy, after Manjummel Boys (2024).

The technical crew of the film also includes director of photography Shyju Khalid, editor Vivek Harshan, and production designer Ajayan Chalissery.

Balan: The Boy is produced by Venkat K Narayana under his KVN Productions banner, and Shailaja Desai Fenn under her Thespian Films banner.
