The other day, Dileep announced through social media that his film Bha Bha Ba would release on ZEE5 on January 16. This means that the film would have its digital premiere in less than a month of its theatrical release. Directed by Dhananjay Shankar from a screenplay by Fahim Safar and Noorin Shereef and produced by Gokulam Gopalan, the film also stars Mohanlal, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Sandy, Baiju Santhosh, Balu Varghese, Ashokan, Devan, and Saranya Ponvannan, among others. It has marked the debut of SJ Suryah in Malayalam cinema as well.
According to data from Sacnilk, Bha Bha Ba earned over 45 crore from theatres worldwide. Reportedly, the film is made on a budget of 30 crore. Now that ZEE5 has acquired the film, it has likely earned back its production cost or at least has come close to doing so. According to unconfirmed sources, the streamer has likely paid around 10 crore to acquire the streaming rights for the film.
Up on its theatrical release, the film faced plenty of criticism not only for its commercial value but also for its storytelling elements reminiscent of the long-drawn actor abduction and assault case. A specific moment in the film seems to take a sarcastic dig at the aforesaid case and faced much criticism from netizens and some industry insiders. The plot of the film, revolving around a prominent character's abduction, also has what appears to be meta references to Dileep's career and life after the case.
At the same time, there was much attention given to a vile comment from Baiju Santhosh aimed against one of the critics, Bhagyalakshmi, for her criticism of Mohanlal's decision to share the film's poster soon after the verdict in the case.
