Biju Menon has been facing much flak from the industry for his lack of participation in promotional interviews for films after Nadanna Sambhavam's producer Anoop Kannan criticised him for it, alleging that the actor's actions have caused him a major financial loss. The controversy made the headlines after FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan, also a filmmaker, said that Biju's lack of promotional activity has caused a loss of 25 lakh to a producer.

While some in the industry have come in his support and others have given context to the ways of working in cinema, audiences also question whether interview promotions will make a big difference to films' financial performance if the quality of the movies themselves is not up to the mark. Speaking of which, perhaps the lack of promotions hints at the actor's pragmatic self, which recognises the quality of cinema as the ultimate parameter for success above everything else.

Speaking of pragmatism, the actor is also known for his reluctance to do action sequences and undergo physical transformation for films. However, there have been occasions where he resisted to give in to this tendency. In a promotional interview for Ayyappanum Koshiyum with Club FM Kerala, Prithviraj Sukumaran said that his co-star underwent a significant physical transformation and did not yield to his temptation against doing stunts to help portray his role as a police officer convincingly in director Sachy's film. He added that his co-star did something similar for their film Anarkali's flashback portions, adding that it benefitted the film significantly. Prithviraj quipped that Biju Menon would only do such things if a major role came his way.

At the same time, Prithviraj humorously referred to Biju's decision to decline an offer to star in one of the biggest films from one of the most significant directors in Malayalam cinema just because of his reluctance for horse riding. As Prithviraj quipped that his co-star was a little bit 'lazy,' Biju clarified that it had to do with the fact that he could not do everything for cinema.
