The shooting of Tovino Thomas's new film Munpe commenced in Ooty on Saturday. It is directed by editor-turned-filmmaker Saiju Sreedharan, who made his directorial debut earlier with Footage. Tina Thomas is scripting the upcoming film, which has fantasy elements. Tovino had earlier hinted it would be an "intense, fantastical love story that is out of this world."

During the film's announcement in 2024, a motion poster was unveiled, featuring Tovino standing in a cosmic wormhole with his arms outstretched while a woman falls into its depths. Its caption, "To what extent will you go to get back the one you lost?" hints at a love story that transcends timelines. The makers had recently issued a casting call for newcomers in the 25-30 age group who are fluent in Malayalam for the film's female lead role.

Munpe is jointly produced by Tovino Thomas Productions, headed by the actor and his brother Tingston Thomas, Panorama Studios, and Dolwin Kuriakose's Theatre of Dreams, the banner which previously produced Tovino's Anweshippin Kandethum.

Munpe has cinematography by Shinoz and music by Rex Vijayan and Gichu Joy. Saiju, noted for his works in Mayaanadhi, Kumbalangi Nights, and Anjaam Pathiraa, handles the editing himself.

Tovino recently wrapped up shooting for Muhsin Parari’s Gracias El Clasico, which also stars Nazriya Nazim in the lead. The Mayaanadhi actor will also soon be reuniting with Guppy director John Paul George.
