Director Jude Anthany Joseph's film Thudakkam hit theatres on Friday, and it has received mostly mixed reviews from critics and audiences. While viewers have expressed reservations for the film's story, calling it 'generic' and 'formulaic,' they have commended the action choreography and the performances of debutants Vismaya Mohanlal and Aashish Joe Antony.

Despite the reviews, the film is off to a solid start at the box office. According to the box office tracker Sacnilk, it has earned a gross collection of 2.78 crore from theatres in India on day 1 and a net collection of 2.40 crore. The aforementioned figures are based on the data involving around 1,100 shows in India. The tracker is yet to release the worldwide Thudakkam box office collection figures.

The story follows a youngster (Vismaya Mohanlal) who must summon up plenty of bravado and determination in a fight-or-flight situation. Set against a heated backdrop, the thriller explores themes of hope, resilience, and the decisions that shape a person's destiny.

In an interview with CE, its co-writer Akhil Krishna described the "emotional father-daughter" bond as the core element of the film.

Besides Vismaya and Aashish Joe Antony, Thudakkam stars Mohanlal, Sai Kumar, Bobby Kurian, Manoj K Jayan, Ganesh kumar, Aswin, Essa, Kottayam Ramesh, Jaya Kurup, and Jaffar Idukki. Reviewers have been critical of Mohanlal's cameo in the film, with most of them saying that it feels forced into the narrative. However, many of them have also given the film its due, reserving special praise for Vismaya and Aashish's work in the central roles.

On the technical front, the film has cinematographers Akhil George, Jomon T John, additional director of photography Sudeep Elamon, composer Jakes Bejoy, editor Chaman Chakko, sound designer Vishnu Govind, and action choreographers Yannick Ben and Stunt Silva.
