Director Mahesh Narayanan's film Patriot, featuring a star-studded ensemble cast, is hitting theatres later this Friday. There is much anticipation for the film, as it reunites Mohanlal and Mammootty in prominent roles for the first time after 2008’s Twenty:20, directed by Joshiy. The producer of the film, Anto Joseph Productions, plans to release the film in other languages, reportedly in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. There is already a Hindi trailer for the film, in addition to a Telugu teaser.

Mammootty recently played down talks about it being a pan-India release and said that it should first cater to the Kerala audience. The superstar reiterated the message in an Instagram Live conversation with his co-stars Mohanlal and Kunchacko Boban on Thursday. However, he said that the other language versions of the film are likely to hit theatres a week later, because it would take time for the censorship clearance for them.

Mammootty also said that the film has an important social message and appeared cautiously optimistic about the film's box office success. The actor suggested that, while he is reasonably confident about the quality of the film, it ultimately depends on how the audience sees it. The actor said that the success or the failure of the film could determine whether Malayalam cinema would be able to make more such films in the future, hinting that these films matter for the industry even in this day and age where the audience gives more importance to content than ever before. Remember, even Vaazha 2, a film with no major established film star, became the highest-grossing Malayalam film at the Kerala box office recently.

Patriot also stars Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Revathy, Darshana Rajendran, Grace Antony, and Rajiv Menon, among others.
