The makers of Vilayath Buddha, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-delayed film, announced on Thursday that its teaser will be released on September 5.

Directed by Jayan Nambiar, a former associate of the late filmmaker Sachy, Vilayath Buddha is an adaptation of GR Indugopan’s acclaimed novel of the same name. Produced by Urvashi Theatres, the screenplay has been co-written by Indugopan and Rajesh Pinnadan. The story centres on a power struggle between Bhaskaran Master, played by Shammy Thilakan, and his former protege Double Mohanan, played by Prithviraj, over the ownership of a sandalwood tree.

Vilayath Buddha, launched in 2020, began filming in October 2022 but encountered several delays, including Prithviraj’s injury during an action sequence in Marayoor in 2023 that required surgery and a three-month recovery. The supporting cast features Anu Mohan, Priyamvada Krishnan, Kottayam Ramesh, and Teejay Arunasalam. The technical team includes Kantara cinematographer Arvind Kashyap, music director Jakes Bejoy, and editor Sreejith Sarang.
