Ravanaprabhu rerelease box office: Mohanlal-Ranjith film grosses over 2 crore in first week

It now stands second in the list of highest-grossing rerelease films out of all Mohanlal starrers

According to reports, Ravanaprabhu has become the second highest-grossing rerelease out of all films starring Mohanlal. The Devasuram sequel has grossed a little over 2 crore, as per the latest data from the industry tracker What The Fuzz. Spadikam still tops the list of highest-grossing Mohanlal starrers that have hit theatres again. However, the film directed by Ranjith is likely to top the list soon as it is getting a wider release later this week. The figures, by themselves, serve as an example of the film’s popularity even today. The approximate 2-crore collection for it is still impressive, especially considering the fact that even some new films releasing now earn a similar amount from theatres. Besides the quality of the film, one of the main factors in its continued success is the nostalgia factor associated with it.

A sequel to 1993’s Devasuram, the 2001 film continues the story of longtime feud between arch rivals Mangalassery Neelakandan (Mohanlal) and Mundakkal Shekaran (Napolean). It marked the directorial debut of Devasuram screenwriter Ranjith.

In an old interview, Ranjith revealed that he wished to make his directorial debut with Kuthiravattam Pappu and Sukumari after Aaraam Thampuran’s release. Then, Mohanlal provided him with the confidence to direct a mainstream film such as Ravanaprabhu.
