Director Mari Selvaraj recently spoke highly of filmmaker Rahul Sadasivan's horror feature Bramayugam, starring Mammootty in the lead role. Describing the visuals in the film as "disturbing" during a recent interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, the filmmaker said that he could not sleep for three-four days after watching the horror drama. Mari Selvaraj also said that he felt envious of the film and its makers. He reserved special praise for the complete black-and-white approach towards the making of the film, which also stars Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan in important roles. "We see that in shorts and in some scenes, but it felt amazing to watch the black-and-white filmmaking approach in an entire film."
Bramayugam released in February last year at a time when Malayalam cinema was having a golden run with simultaneous success of the film, Premalu, and Manjummel Boys. Reportedly, it grossed more than 60 crore from theatres worldwide. In fact, the film's popularity extends beyond the country. For example, it is part of the UK's University for the Creative Arts' curriculum. A student from the said school recently posted a video where one of its tutors can be seen examining the sound design of Bramayugam with the Harry Potter franchise.
Coming back to Mari Selvaraj, the filmmaker is awaiting the October 17 release of Bison, starring Dhruv Vikram, Anupama Parameswaran, Lal, Rajisha Vijayan, and Ameer, among others.
