Ahead of the theatrical release of Theatre: The Myth of Reality on October 16, its makers organised an unique campaign titled #UnwrittenByHer to honour women who carved unconventional paths and created unique spaces for themselves in society. Saji Cheriyan, the honourable minister for fisheries, culture and youth affairs, was the chief guest at the event held in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.
The achievers who were honoured included Radhamani Amma, a 73-year-old license holder for 11 different types of vehicles including heavy machinery; Arya Rajendran, India’s youngest Mayor; G S Roshni, Beat Forest Officer and Kerala’s only woman snake rescuer, who has saved over 800 snakes including an 18-foot king cobra; Sruthy Sithara, Miss Trans Global 2021; and members of the Haritha Karma Sena, the team of women who work tirelessly across Kerala to collect and manage household plastic waste. Lead actor Rima Kallingal, along with the other cast and crew members of the film were also present in the event.
The ceremony also witnessed the Kerala launch of the film’s trailer, which was first unveiled earlier at the Cannes Film Festival.
Theatre: The Myth of Reality is written and directed by Sajin Baabu, who earlier made the critically acclaimed Biriyaani (2019). The upcoming film is produced by Anjana Philip under the banner of Anjana Talkies.
Theatre is set for its world premiere on October 7 at the IX Yalta International Film Festival, Eurasian Bridge – International Competition Section, where it is one of eight films selected in the competition. It will also be screened at the Kazan Film Festival, Russia, and has earned selections at TIME International Film Festival and CinéV-CHD International Film Festival. Earlier, the film won the Best Actress Award and the Special Jury Award at the 48th Kerala Film Critics Awards.
