As Kalamkaval's release date gets closer and closer, one question about the film remains - Is Mammootty the hero or the villain? In a recent interview for the film, the actor remained playfully evasive about revealing the truth, but the actor mentions that his character is not a 'good soul'.

"There are limitations to being a hero. But in Malayalam cinema villians come in all shapes and forms. Even though those tropes have been evolving, some form of this remains in our conventional cinema," says the actor.

"After a period of time, when you graduate to senior roles, you get more choices of roles," says Mammootty. "You get more variations," adds the actor.

When asked if his character in the film is based on the story of serial killer Cyanide Mohan, Mammootty explains that while Kalamkaval is not related to the case of Cyanide Mohan, there is an element of Cyanide in the film. "The writer and director based it on multiple real life stories," adds the actor.

Directed by debutant Jithin K Jose, who has written the story and screenplay along with Jishnu Sreekumar, Kalamkaval also stars Vinayakan and Rajisha Vijayan, among others. The film is releasing on December 5.
