Following its theatrical release in the Diwali season, the Sharaf U Dheen starrer The Pet Detective is set to have its digital premiere. ZEE5 has announced that it would start streaming the film from November 28 onwards. The action-comedy film is directed by Praneesh Vijayan, and it follows an underachieving yet determined detective trying to prove his worth by going in search of a missing pet. A routine endeavour quickly becomes a chaotic set of events, which involve international smugglers, a missing girl, a don from the Mexican mafia, kidnappers, and a cop trying to find the same child. The film also stars Anupama Parameswaran, Vinayakan, Vinay Forrt, Jeomon Jyothir, and Shyam Mohan. While the film has echoes of comic capers such as Priyadarshan's Vettam and Johny Antony's CID Moosa, Praneesh told us that it was not intentional. "Even though it has elements of a detective story, we did not want it to become one. We wanted the treatment to be full-on entertainment," the filmmaker told us.
Talking about its digital premiere, the film's lead actor and producer Sharaf U Dheen said, "The Pet Detective is very special to me, not just as an actor, but because it marks my debut as a producer. We wanted to make a film that audiences can simply laugh with, without overthinking. It’s chaotic, colourful and full of heart. I’m thrilled that viewers across can now enjoy it on Malayalam ZEE5."
