A while ago, MammoottyKampany, the production banner behind Kalamkaval, dropped the first official trailer for the film, starring Mammootty and Vinayakan and directed by debutant Jithin K Jose. The trailer only gives a glimpse of the film's plot, which follows Vinayakan's police officer looking into an old case, involving a fight between friends that contributed to a major communal riot. It is only towards the end of the Kalamkaval trailer do we even see Mammootty's character appear onscreen. "Do you know killing what offers the most pleasure?" Mammootty's character says. Interestingly, the trailer does not show the answer and ends with the silhouette of the legendary actor's character smoking a cigarette.

It is sure to excite the actor's fans and general followers of mystery thrillers, building further anticipation for the character and what could be the ultimate showdown between him and Vinayakan's police officer. Earlier, the makers released a teaser, which too did not offer much about the film's plot or Mammootty's character.

Kalamkaval is slated to release on November 27 in theatres. Known as the story writer of the Dulquer Salmaan starrer Kurup, Jithin is directing the film from a screenplay he has written alongside Jishnu Sreekumar. The film also stars Jibin Gopinath, known for his supporting role in Rahul Sadasivan's recent horror film Dies Irae, co-starring Pranav Mohanlal, and Biju Pappan.

Dulquer Salmaan's banner Wayfarer Films has the rights to distribute the film in Kerala. On the technical front, it has cinematographer Faisal Ali, editor Praveen Prabhakar, composer Mujeeb Majeed of Kishkindha Kaandam fame, and production designer Shajie Naduvil.
