Lalanna’s Song, a critically acclaimed Malayalam–Hindi short film featuring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Rima Kallingal and Nakshatra Indrajith, is now available to stream on MUBI. Written and directed by Megha Ramaswamy, the 34-minute film first premiered in 2022 and has since garnered international attention on the festival circuit.

Set over the course of a seemingly ordinary evening, Lalanna’s Song follows two women attending a child’s birthday party. What begins as a routine social gathering descends into a surreal and unsettling psychological experience, triggered by the enigmatic presence of Lalanna, a young girl whose haunting song carries ominous undertones. Nakshatra’s portrayal of the titular character earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Critics Choice Awards.

Lalanna’s Song was recognised with a Special Jury Mention at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) and featured at several international festivals including International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK), Dharamshala International Film Festival, and Final Girls Film Festival in Berlin. The film also received nominations for Best Short Film and Best Cinematography at the Critics Choice Awards.

Backed by Newton Cinema, with Guneet Monga and Imtiyaz Khan as co-producers, Lalanna’s Song has cinematography by Kuldeep Mamania, editing by Shini JK and music by Sneha Khanwalkar. Dialogues and lyrics are penned by May Jacob and Sandeep Mohandas.
