Writer-director Shahi Kabir has announced that he is currently writing two upcoming films: one for director-producer Rathish Ambat and another for seasoned editor Kiran Das, who is set to make his directorial debut. In a recent interview with Cue Studio, following the release of his second directorial venture Ronth, Shahi confirmed both writing projects. Further details about the films are awaited.
Ronth, a police procedural featuring Dileesh Pothan and Roshan Mathew in the lead, was released on June 13 and has received generally positive reviews from both critics and audiences. Co-produced by Rathish, the film draws on Shahi’s background in policing, a recurring influence in all his works including Joseph, Nayattu, Officer on Duty and his directorial debut Ela Veezha Poonchira.
Rathish is best known for directing Kammara Sambhavam and Theerppu. Last year, he also helmed a segment titled Kadal Kattu as part of the anthology series Manorathangal, based on short stories by the legendary writer-director M T Vasudevan Nair.
Kiran's notable credits as an editor include Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Joji, Jan.E.Man, Rorschach, Romancham and Ullozhukku, among others. He has collaborated with Shahi previously on Joseph and Ela Veezha Poonchira. In 2019, Kiran won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Editor for the Shane Nigam–Shine Tom Chacko starrer Ishq.
