The makers of the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU) have introduced a new superhero, Captain Raaj, expanding their homegrown franchise with the launch of an animated trailer on Sunday. Titled Captain Raaj: The First Glitch, the upcoming venture marks the beginning of a fresh animated chapter within the WCU, which first took shape with the 2021 film Minnal Murali, starring Tovino Thomas and directed by Basil Joseph.

Actor Dhyan Sreenivasan announced Captain Raaj during the Kerala Innovation Festival 2025, hosted by Kerala Startup Mission. The project is produced by Sophia Paul under the Weekend Blockbusters banner and developed in collaboration with the creative tech team at Carmond Infinity.

Unlike its live-action predecessors, Captain Raaj enters the universe through the medium of animation, with an expanded narrative roll-out planned across multiple formats. The journey begins with a comic book, then with games, merchandise, and an animated feature film to follow. It becomes the third entry in the WCU, following Minnal Murali and Detective Ujjwalan, with the latter being led by Dhyan.
