The 2001 Malayalam blockbuster Ravanaprabhu, starring Mohanlal in dual roles, is set for a theatrical rerelease in a restored 4K version with Dolby Atmos sound. It follows the commercial success of earlier Mohanlal film restorations such as Spadikam, Devadoothan, Manichithrathazhu, and Chotta Mumbai.
Ravanaprabhu, which marked the directorial debut of Ranjith, was a sequel to IV Sasi's 1993 film Devasuram, with Mohanlal playing both Mangalassery Neelakandan and his son MN Karthikeyan. The plot centres on generational conflict and revenge as Karthikeyan confronts the family’s long-standing rival, Mundackal Shekharan, while striving to reclaim their ancestral home. The film combines action, family drama, romance and elements of feudal rivalry.
At the time of release, Ravanaprabhu, was the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2001 and won several awards, including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value. Apart from Mohanlal, it also features Vasundhara Das, Napoleon, Revathi, Innocent, Vijayaraghavan, and Siddique in prominent roles. Details of the rerelease schedule are yet to be announced.
