Mohanlal's directorial debut Barroz, a children's fantasy adventure, will have its streaming premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on January 22. The film, released theatrically worldwide on December 25, 2024, opened to mixed responses from both critics and general audiences. Apart from Malayalam, it will also have dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

Besides Mohanlal in the titular role, Barroz also features Kallirroi Tziafeta, Ignacio Mateos, and Cesar Lorente Raton in key roles. On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Santosh Sivan, editing by B Ajith Kumar, songs composed by Lydian Nadhaswaram and background score by Mark Kilian. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, it has T K Rajeev Kumar as its creative head, with additional dialogues penned by Kalavoor Ravikumar.

An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "Fantasy films for children are a rarity in Malayalam cinema, and Mohanlal deserves credit for attempting to fill this gap. Yet, Barroz is a reminder that ambition alone cannot make up for weak execution. The film dreams of being a priceless treasure, but in the end, it’s little more than a shiny trinket, polished just enough to catch the light but not enough to hold our attention."
