The Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan-starrer Rekhachithram has amassed Rs 28.30 crore at the global box office within four days of its release. The makers announced the film's successful opening weekend through social media on Monday. Directed by Jofin T Chacko, who debuted with the Mammootty-starrer The Priest (2021), the film has garnered widespread attention for its unique narrative and storytelling.
Upon release on January 9, Rekhachithram received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for its innovative approach to exploring alternate history, weaving elements of Malayalam cinema from the 1980s. The screenplay is co-written by John Manthirckal and Ramu Sunil, with the latter also credited for the story.
An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "Ultimately, Rekhachithram is more than a murder mystery. By blending nostalgia and meta-commentary, Jofin has delivered a film that rewards both cinephiles and mystery lovers alike. It may not be perfect, but its imperfections are overshadowed by its ambition and heart, offering a poignant reminder of the magic of Malayalam cinema’s yesteryears."
