Actor Malavika Mohanan has been having a busy year, working simultaneously on three films in contrasting genres. She is part of Sardar 2, an espionage thriller with Karthi, the slice-of-life drama Hridayapoorvam co-starring Mohanlal, and the "out-and-out horror comedy" The Raja Saab, also starring Prabhas. While Hridayapoorvam has already hit theatres, both Sardar 2 and The Raja Saab are yet to release theatrically. From Malavika's point of view, however, she had to work on these films at the same time, something which some actors find challenging. Speaking to Galatta Plus about how she dealt with the challenge in a recent interview, the actor said, "All three were such different genres and such different films, but it came down to sort of finding the specific character and being authentic to that character."

Malavika said that she was conscious of not changing her acting style too dramatically just because the genres of these films differ. The actor also said that she was not attempting to be "loud for the sake of it just because the film's genre is a particular way."

Malavika Mohanan earned plenty of critical appreciation for her performance as a single woman who has just lost her father in Hridayapoorvam, directed by Sathyan Anthikad. In our review, Avinash Ramachandran wrote, "Malavika is a revelation in the film, and it goes on to show that the right character, under the aegis of a brilliant filmmaker, can change our beliefs about certain actors' histrionic abilities."

After multiple delays, director Maruthi's film The Raja Saab is set to hit theatres on January 09 next year. On the other hand, production on the sequel to Sardar, starring Karthi and directed by PS Mithran, has been wrapped. However, the film is yet to have an official release date.
