There has been much discourse around the various aspects of director Dhananjay Shankar's Bha Bha Ba on the internet, including both positive and negative aspects, ever since its theatrical release. One of the most talked about elements has been about how Mohanlal's character acknowledges his admiration for Vijay in various ways. In one particular scene, he lends a Gypsy for use in Vijay's blockbuster film Ghilli. According to Fahim Safar, who wrote the film alongside Noorin Shereef, Mohanlal was excited about doing such scenes concerning Vijay. In a recent interview with Ginger Media, Fahim said that Mohanlal told director Dhananjay that such scenes would make Vijay happy. Fahim also revealed that Mohanlal stood with the film, having understood the assignment correctly. The film stars the superstar as Gilli, a nod to Vijay's iconic 2004 film.

There are other references to Vijay, Mohanlal's Jilla co-star, in the film, including one where the legendary actor's character does the former's Mersal poses. Bha Bha Ba follows the chaotic adventures that come after a prominent politician's kidnapping by one of the main characters. Reportedly, the film has so far earned around 20 crore in net collection from theatres in India. It also stars Dhyan Sreenivasan, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Devan, Ashokan, and Baiju Santhosh, among others.
