The first look of Jayasurya's much-hyped film Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer will be released on Sunday morning at 10 AM. Directed by Home-fame Rojin Thomas, the film is an ambitious fantasy thriller based on Kadamattathu Kathanar, a priest who was believed to possess supernatural powers.

Debutant R Ramanand has scripted the film, which has Jayasurya in the titular role of Kathanar. Anushka Shetty essays the role of Nila, the female lead, marking her Malayalam debut. Prabhudheva also returns to Malayalam cinema after a 13-year hiatus with this film. Actor-dance choreographer Sandy, most recently seen as the antagonist in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, plays another prominent role.

Kathanar, produced by Sree Gokulam Movies, is shaping up as one of the most expensive films to be made in Malayalam. It is mounted as a pan-India project with the majority of the portions shot using virtual production technology. It has Neil D Cunha as the cinematographer, Jungjin Park as the action choreographer, and Rahul Subrahmanian Unni as the music director.
