Ashakal Aayiram, directed by Oru Vadakkan Selfie filmmaker G Prajith, will begin production on August 18 following a traditional pooja ceremony in Kochi. The film brings together veteran actor Jayaram and his son Kalidas Jayaram in the lead roles. The project was announced earlier with a first look poster featuring the father–son duo against a city backdrop.

Ashakal Aayiram's screenplay is jointly written by Jude Anthany Joseph and Aravind Rajendran, with Jude, whose last directorial was 2018: Everyone Is a Hero, also serving as the creative director. Sharing the first look, Kalidas called the film “a moment 25 years in the making,” dedicating it to father–son bonds, dreamers, and returning home.

Ashakal Aayiram marks the fourth on-screen collaboration between Jayaram and Kalidas after Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, the latter's acting debut, and Ente Veedu Appuvinteyum, which won him the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. In the Tamil anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai, Kalidas also portrayed the younger version of Jayaram’s character in the segment Ilamai Idho Idho.

Ashakal Aayiram is produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies, with Baiju Gopalan and V C Praveen as executive producers. The film's technical crew includes cinematographer Shaji Kumar, editor Shafeeque V B and composer Sanal Dev.
