The Kochi City police have issued a lookout notice against Malayalam rapper and songwriter Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, to prevent him from leaving the country. This action follows a rape complaint filed against him by a doctor with the Thrikkakara police on July 30. The complaint alleges that Vedan sexually abused the woman under the false promise of marriage.

Authorities are also examining financial transactions between Vedan and the complainant, as well as statements from individuals reportedly aware of the incidents. The alleged abuse is said to have taken place several years ago, with multiple locations, including Kozhikode, Kochi and Eloor, mentioned in the case.

Vedan, known for his anti-caste music and popular tracks like ‘Kuthanthram’ from Manjummel Boys, has been absconding since the complaint was registered. Police had planned to arrest him during a scheduled music event in Kochi, which was subsequently postponed by organisers due to the ongoing case. The investigation continues under the supervision of the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police.

This is not Vedan’s first controversy. Several women have come forward in the past with allegations of sexual misconduct against him, particularly during the peak of the MeToo movement. Earlier this year, he was arrested with friends for possession of cannabis and later for holding a leopard-tooth pendant, allegedly gifted by a fan.
