National Award-winning filmmaker Krishand has confirmed that he is in active discussions with Mohanlal for an upcoming film, which he described as a detective comedy. The director clarified the genre during a recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit, where he responded to fan queries ahead of the release of his latest film Sangharsha Ghadana - The Art of Warfare, hitting theatres on August 8 with limited showcasing.

Responding to speculation that the new film with Mohanlal might be a science fiction project, Krishand stated that it is “not sci-fi”, describing it instead as “detective polathe, comedy polathe” (like detective, like comedy). He also shared that while the project is progressing, further rounds of discussions remain.

In the same AMA session, Krishand also addressed another much-speculated project involving Mammootty, confirming that it too is not a science fiction or time travel film, but rather an action comedy. “I read on the internet that it is a sci-fi film. I am glad about the speculations but it is a comedy idi padam,” he said.

The upcoming collaborations have already generated considerable buzz among fans, especially as it marks Mohanlal and Mammootty’s union with one of the most original voices in new-age Malayalam cinema, best known for his distinctive style in films such as the National Award-winning Aavasavyuham and Purusha Pretham. Though further details are awaited, veteran actor Maniyanpilla Raju had earlier confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Mohanlal film as its producer. He had spoken about the significance of collaborating with emerging new talents in the industry, including Krishand.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of Hridayapoorvam, which marks the veteran actor's reunion with Sathyan Anthikad after 10 years. The film, co-starring Malavika Mohanan and Premalu-fame Sangeeth Prathap, is scheduled for an Onam release on August 28.

On the other hand, Krishand is also working on another feature Masthishka Maranam (A Frankenbiting of Simon's Memories), and has a SonyLIV web series titled Sambhava Vivaranam Naalara Sangham (The Chronicles Of The 4.5 Gang) lined up for release later this year.
