The 2010 film tells the story of a wealthy businessman named Pranchiyettan (Mammootty) who grapples with an identity crisis and seeks respect among his business community in Thrissur. In the film, Mammootty's titular character has imaginary conversations with Saint Francis of Assisi. The saint serves as a spiritual guide to Pranchiyettan in the film, offering wisdom and perspective to the titular character. Also starring Priyamani, Khushbu Sundar, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Innocent, among others, Pranchiyettan and the Saint is regarded as one of the best films of the last decade, with some considering it the beginning of the "New Wave" movement in Malayalam cinema.
