The makers of Mohanlal-Prithviraj Sukumaran's L2: Empuraan released the lyric video of the song titled 'Azrael', composed by Deepak Dev. The track is crooned by veteran singer Usha Uthup, with lyrics penned by Murali Gopy, the film’s scriptwriter. The song's title 'Azrael' has led to speculation that it may also serve as the name for the third instalment of the Lucifer trilogy, much like how the song titled 'Empuraan' was featured at the end of the first instalment. However, no official confirmation has been provided by the makers.

Meanwhile, L2: Empuraan has faced controversy since its release on March 27, with accusations of political bias from right-wing parties. In response, the film was re-edited, reducing its runtime by over two minutes and undergoing 24 cuts. Key changes included renaming the main antagonist, muting references to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and removing specific scenes.

Despite the controversy, L2: Empuraan continues its strong box office run, making it one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.
