Earlier, we reported that a group of prominent filmmakers had proposed forming a new collective, the 'Progressive Filmmakers Association,' spearheaded by director Aashiq Abu. The collective aims to reform the industry by promoting fairer and more equitable workplaces. Renowned director Lijo Jose Pellissery's name was also mentioned in the undersigned letter.

In response, Lijo publicly clarified on Wednesday through a post on his social media handle that he is not currently involved with the film collective. While Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam director supported the concept of an independent filmmakers' group, he categorically noted that any information circulating in his name was inaccurate.

Lijo stated, “I am not currently part of any film collective being discussed in the media. My friend and director Aashiq Abu shared with me the idea of such a collective. I agreed with the concept of a creative, independent group of film directors and producers and would welcome such an initiative. While I would be interested in becoming part of such a collective, any official announcement from my side would come in due course. Until then, any reports involving my name are without my knowledge.”

Lijo's last directorial was the Mohanlal-starrer Malaikottai Vaaliban, which received mixed reviews from critics and common audiences.
