Earlier, we reported about the death of actor Mohan Raj, best known for his negative role as Keerikadan Jose in Sibi Malayil's 1989 film Kireedam. There have since been a number of social media posts from actors in Malayalam cinema remembering Mohan Raj, including one from his Kireedam co-star Mohanlal.
Taking to his Facebook handle, Mohanlal shared that only one blessed with acting skills gets the good fortune of being remembered by the name of his character. Speaking of which, Mohanlal called Keerikadan Jose a legendary character.
In Kireedam, Mohanlal plays Sethumadhavan, a youngster who wants to be a police officer to fulfil his father Achuthan Nair's dream. The film explores how Keerikadan Jose gets in the way of Sethumadhavan, his dream, and his love life with Devi (Parvathy). Keerikadan Jose also makes a relatively brief appearance in the sequel to Kireedam titled Chenkol.
Mohanlal's contemporary and Mohan Raj's Rorschach co-star Mammootty also paid homage to Mohan's passing, as did his Aanaval Mothiram and Vazhunnor co-star Suresh Gopi. Describing Mohan Raj as "Malayalam cinema's Keerikkadan Jose," Suresh Gopi shared that Mohan gave many roles that Malayali audiences will always remember.
Mohan Raj made his Malayalam debut with K Madhu’s action-thriller Moonnam Mura (1988), starring Mohanlal in a lead role. Some of his other notable works are Aye Auto (1989), Mimics Parade (1991), Nagarathil Samsara Vishayam (1991), Uppukandam Brothers (1993), Hitler (1996), Aaraam Thampuran (1997), Pathram (1999), Narasimham (2000), Naran (2006), Mayavi (2007), and Hallo (2007).
The actor also appeared in several Tamil and Telugu films, along with a single Hindi feature. His last on-screen appearance was in the Mammootty-starrer Rorschach (2022).
