Filmmaker Harikumar passes away

Harikumar has directed over a dozen films, including Sukrutham, Udhyanapalakan, and Swayamvara Panthal

Veteran Malayalam scenarist-director Harikumar passed away on Monday. He breathed his last in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where he was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Harikumar has directed over a dozen films, with Sukrutham (1994), Udhyanapalakan (1996) and Swayamvara Panthal (2000) being his most noted works. Sukrutham, scripted by MT Vasudevan Nair, is widely regarded as a classic. The Mammootty-starrer also won two national awards, including one for the Best Feature Film in Malayalam.

Harikumar's last directorial was Autorickshawkarante Bharya (2022), an adaptation of M Mukundan's story. It starred Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ann Augustine as the leads.
