Checkmate, headlined by Anoop Menon, will be released theatrically on August 8, announced the makers through social media. The upcoming film is directed by debutant Ratish Sekhar, who also wore multiple hats as the writer, cinematographer and composer. Billed as a suspense thriller shot completely in the United States of America, it also stars Lal and Rekha Harindran in the lead roles.

Checkmate's cast also includes Raji Arun, Sowmya Rajan, Shyam Krishna, and Viswam Nair, among others. The upcoming film has Prejish Prakash handling the cuts and Ruslan Perezhilo composing its background score.

Anoop was last seen in the Tovino Thomas-starrer Nadikar. His upcoming slate includes Ithu Thaanda Police director Manoj Palodan's Ideem Minnalum, alongside Dhyan Sreenivasan, and Chiram, opposite Aiswarya Mithun Koroth, in the pipeline. Earlier, the actor had announced his third outing as a director titled Nalpathukarante Irupathonnukaari. Despite the announcement in 2023, the current status of the project remains unknown.
