Malayalam film Aattam, Anand Ekarshi’s directorial debut, has won the FIPRESCI-India Grand Prix for the best Indian film of 2023, announced The India Chapter of FIPRESCI.

Reacting to the announcement on July 09, Anand stated on social media, This is probably the proudest moment for everyone in our team! All credit and thanks truly goes to our wonderful producer, Ajith Joy K, who backed us all like nobody else ever would.

Aattam, a chamber drama modelled on 12 Angry Men, revolves around a sexual harassment accusation made by the sole actress (Zarin Shihab) of a theatre group against a popular film star (Kalabhavan Shajohn) who joined their team recently. The film also stars Vinay Forrt, Prasanth Madhavan, Aji Thiruvamkulam, and Madan Babu K, among others.

The India Chapter of FIPRESCI has also listed nine other films, including Don Palathara's Family and Sri Lankan director Prasanna Vithanage's Paradise, among the top 10 films in 2023.

The ten films that made it onto the FIPRESCI-India list, in the order of ranking, are:

FIPRESCI (Federation Internationale de la Presse Cinematographique), also known as The International Federation of Film Critics, established in 1930 in Belgium, is an association of national organisations of professional film critics and film journalists from around the world.

Earlier, Aattam, available on Amazon Prime Video, secured the tenth position on the online social cataloguing platform Letterboxd's list of the 25 highest-rated feature films globally as of June 30, 2024.
