Actor-dance choreographer Sandy, best known for his work in Tamil cinema, has joined the cast of the upcoming Malayalam film Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer. The announcement regarding Sandy's Malayalam debut was made on Friday, on the occasion of his birthday. Welcoming Sandy to the team, the film's director Rojin Thomas penned a note, which reads, "We are thrilled to have you join us on this exciting journey with Kathanar. Your talent and energy are a perfect addition to our team. Welcome aboard and here’s to your first Malayalam movie!"

Kathanar, an ambitious fantasy thriller, is based on the tales of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a Kerala priest who was believed to possess supernatural powers. Scripted by R Ramanand, the film has Jayasurya playing the role of Kathanar. Popular South Indian actor Anushka Shetty is making her Malayalam debut by playing the female lead. It also marks Prabhu Deva's return to Malayalam cinema 13 years after his last appearance in the Santhosh Sivan-directorial Urumi.

Sandy became a household name among the Tamil masses after he emerged as the runner-up in the third season of Bigg Boss Tamil. He has also choreographed dance sequences in popular films like Vikram, Varisu, Karnan, Sarpatta Parambarai, and RDX. On the acting front, he is best known for his role in the blockbuster Vijay-Lokesh Kanagaraj film Leo.
